About

Dr. Silvia M. Lloyd

Dr. Silvia M. Lloyd, recipient of the NAACP Medgar Evers Award, is a leading figure in education, an impassioned researcher, and a seasoned interpreter of the human condition, for demonstrating how a robust social justice curriculum can help us understand, heal, and thrive during perilous times.

In 2022, Dr. Lloyd published The Buffalo 10 Massacre: Spoken Word Poetry for Healing and Understanding, which became an award-winning piece of literature. She refers to it as, “the ultimate call to address inequity in the Black community.”

Through her writing, Dr. Lloyd gives voice to the voiceless and sheds light on the underserved communities in public schools. Through her lectures, she explores the need to identify gaps in curricula and to accommodate the concerns and lived experiences of marginalized children.

Her debut work, The Pandemic Preparedness Guide for School Administrators: Policies, Practices, and Lessons Learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic, became an instant best seller, reaching #6 on Amazon. The high-demand from educators in Japan, the UK, and the US prompted Dr. Lloyd to create Edusite Scholars, an educational consulting firm.

She is a native of Buffalo, N.Y., a third generation educator, the descendant of an award-winning grandmother, whose activism helped break down racial barriers in the Buffalo Public Schools in the 1960’s. In 2005, Dr. Lloyd became the first Black Supervisor of Libraries for the Buffalo Public Schools and in 2007, the first Black Director of the School Library System in Rochester, N.Y.

In 2024, Dr. Lloyd published Black Schools | White Lies: Identifying the Caste in K12 Schools. In this book she identifies four areas in education that prevent the Black community from hiring locally, teaching its own curriculum, and addressing economic dispariy.

Additionally, Dr. Lloyd is producing and co-directing Fatal Saturday: The Buffalo Massacre of 5-14-22, a documentary about the mass shooting that took place at Tops Friendly Markets on the East Side of Buffalo.
